Japanese defender Maya Yoshida was famous for being funny and having a big head but will now be known as the scorer of this goal.
Yoshida has played for VVV Venlo in Holland since December 2009 after transferring from Nagoya Grampus. Keisuke Honda had made the same move the previous year. Unlike his compatriot Yoshida did not initially thrive in Europe. A series of injuries did not aid acclimatisation but he has slowly established himself in the VVV team. One of the taller Japanese players at 6’2″ (189cm) he is strong in the air with strong technique and a good turn of pace. This goal will raise his profile. This could be an interesting season for Maya Yoshida.
